The blower door test is more than just hot air in today’s industry. This test measures the airtightness of a building by measuring the amount of air that is exchanged between the interior and exterior of the building. The test is performed by sealing all doors and windows and then using a powerful fan to pressurize or depressurize the building. Voltas has the ability to calculate this using the latest technology and methods with the intention of saving you costly bills, meeting energy step code 3, and lessening the burden on your HVAC System.

Explaining the science, we look at the rate at which air is exchanged, which is measured in units of cubic feet per minute (CFM) and is used to calculate the building’s airtightness in terms of its air changes per hour (ACH). A higher ACH value indicates that more air is leaking into or out of the building, which directly impacts the energy costs to heat or cool the building.

In addition to their use in residential buildings, blower door tests are also performed in commercial buildings, schools, and other public buildings to assess their energy efficiency and identify opportunities for improvement. This may be performed as part of a building’s energy audit and can be used to identify areas of air leakage that may require sealing or weatherization. Voltas Engineering knows the ins and outs of this process, and we can help you find provincial rebates as well as tax breaks resulting from energy efficiency.

In conclusion, the blower door test is a valuable tool for measuring a building’s airtightness and energy efficiency. As stated before, we at Voltas Engineering are experts in all things engineering, and this is no different. By designing an advanced HVAC system for you, using any and all rebates available to you, and ensuring step code compliance, we can achieve your goals.
