Heating and Cooling

When diving into the world of HVAC (Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning) heating and cooling systems are used to regulate the temperature in a building, ensuring a comfortable environment for the occupants in addition to preventing damage to the construction. There are several types of heating and cooling systems, each with its own advantages and disadvantages. Voltas can help you along every step of the way.

At Voltas, we are committed to helping you every step of the way – from the consulting and design stage to the implementation and blower door testing afterward, Voltas knows the ins and outs of HVAC. To further help you with the process, we are also familiar with all grants and subsidies provided by the municipal, provincial, and federal governments. This will help you save money while also ensuring supreme performance and efficiency with all your air needs. That way, you can have the heating and air conditioning you want without breaking the bank.

The most common types of heating systems is the furnace. Furnaces are mechanical machines burn fuel such as natural gas, to generate heat which is then distributed throughout the building via a system of ducts and vents. Furnaces are efficient and can provide heat quickly, but they require maintenance and can be expensive to operate, especially with rising fuel costs. Slowly but surely, this type of forced air will be phased out for the more efficient Heat Pump.

Heat pumps use electricity to transfer heat from one location to another. They can be used for both heating and cooling, making them a versatile option. They are also more energy efficient than furnaces, but they can be less effective in extremely cold temperatures. Voltas Engineering has pioneered the design and implementation of heat pumps throughout British Columbia, and the Lower Mainland, and are confident in helping you design the right system for you.

Cooling systems, also known as air conditioning systems, work by removing heat and moisture from the air and distributing cool air throughout the building. These systems use a compressor and a condenser to remove heat from the air, and they are typically connected to a system of ducts and vents to distribute the cool air. Another type of cooling system is the ductless mini-split. These systems are similar to central air conditioners, but they do not require ductwork. Instead, they use individual air handlers that are mounted on the walls or ceilings to distribute the cool air – this is advantageous as it provides the ability to have zoned air conditioning. They are more energy efficient than central air conditioners, but they can be more expensive to install.

As an added benefit which is difficult to find anywhere else, our departments each have their own TECA and HEPA training. Whether you are doing a home reno, or completing a 200 unit townhome project, any and all builders can benefit with our expertise. We will work with your architect and contractors to ensure the HVAC system is safe, quiet, and sustainable. Our engineers have experience in specialized building mechanical systems; this includes Kitchen Hoods, Dust Collection and Spray Booth assemblies, and this directly results in us having the confidence to ensure you are safe and healthy, along with those around you!

It was a remarkable experience with ‘Voltas Engineering’ where the team guided me very well throughout the process. They have keen knowledge and experience in their field.
